Casa Berger/Butanta: My Second Semester Study
On our first lecture of ARCH112, our seconds semester architectural drawing course, we got into groups of 4 and got assigned a structure each that we would investigate for the entirety of semester. At the end of the semester, we would make our final exhibition on the buildings. Me and my friends Ahmet Kaan Kocaoğlu, Eylül Deniz and Can Kutay Çakmak chose "Casa Butanta", a building designed by Paulo Mendes da Rocha that follows the principles of Brutalism in Sao Paolo.
Our first assignment was about our initial observation and knowledge about Casa Butanta. We would later on make a presentation and draw sketches.

We then drew section drawings and plans of the building.

We were also assigned to make a mock-up model of Casa Berger, which gave us the idea to put the focus on the material of the building, a major aspect of the exterior that gives the structure its personality.

we made the model from broken pieces of concrete we found on the street, which also made the model sustainable. We also added colored wood pieces around it to give it some color.
